In the last bit of April, we were able to get back on this roller mill project. In this video, you can see the guts of the machine: 2x 750 lb steel rollers. These massive rolls will spin counter to each other and feed grain between the rollers thoroughly crushing it. Crushing the grain allows the bacteria calf's rumen to access the starches of the grain and convert it to energy. One of the cool things about this project is that we were able to support five local businesses for bearing and electrical parts, electrical installation, metal for the frame, and the motor refurbishment. Even though we are pretty self-sufficient with a lot of things on the farm, there are many things we cannot do without the support of our local community. Supporting your local rancher supports these businesses and grows the local economy creating a win-win for everyone.
